We love sharing our vintage tableware for anything and everything! From over 200 guests to 4, we will provide our rentals for any size gathering. Today’s post is about the smaller, more intimate affairs that are elevated with the beauty of vintage. Photos were sent to us by our clients and we are so pleased to show you!
This first set of photos are from a post-Covid family reunion. Our client, Betsy, organized the table settings from afar and visited the shop days before to select the goblets. With her gorgeous arrangements and our vintage goblets and flatware, the tables were inviting for her family.
Every birthday is special but your mother’s 80th is a humongous milestone! Yvette even went further when she planned the celebration for her mother – family members came in from out-of-state to surprise the guest of honor. So sweet!
The third set of photos is from our winner of the Tea Party To Go contest. The guests had two reasons to celebrate – a birthday for the winner, Robin, and the end of chemo treatment for one of her guests. Every day is a good day to have tea, and this one certainly was.
Three wonderful events, three celebrations, and three ways to beautifully incorporate vintage.
Our vintage bold retro dinner plates, bright colored goblets, woven placemats, and teal napkins were key to Emily’s design; however, the potted plants, faux florals by Silk Stem Collective and Emily Ruth Print‘s table number added yet another original layer to the eclectic look.
Extra touches such as our vintage-styled cigar box, petite vintage green glass covered tray, and colorful vintage tins brought additional boldness. We absolutely adore Happily Desserted‘s multilayered cake on the dessert table with more of our vintage decor.
Bravo to all of the vendors who were part of this creative shoot! As displayed in the neon sign, “It’s you. It’s me. It’s us.” Words we all love to hear!
Oh, happy day for Taylor and Larry at The Parlour at Mann’s Chapel. Exquisitely designed and orchestrated by Whitney Davis and splendidly captured by Krystal Kast Photography, this blissfully blue wedding day is stunning in every way.
The first celebration for the couple following the ceremony is cocktail time. We love Cottage Lux’s totally chic bar stocked with our vintage goblets and coupes. Mingling with one in your hands has a wonderfully festive feel, don’t you think?
The combination of talent, wares, and time created this extraordinary wedding! Be sure to note the incredible team of vendors below along with their contributions. Thank you, Whitney and Krystal, for providing this listing and photos for everyone to share.
Congratulations, Taylor and Larry! Your blissfully blue wedding day will be fondly remembered by so many – guests and vendors alike. Wishing ya’ll the best of everything!

Folks contact us with many different requests – sometimes we set the entire table with our vintage tableware; other times it may be one particular vintage look. In this case, we provided vintage Independence Hall dinner plates for wedding guests at the gorgeous Duke Mansion in Charlotte. It was meant to be – they had 35 guests and we had 35 blue and white plates in the same pattern.
As you can see in the fabulous floral arrangements by Gather Flower Studio , the other primary color was orange. We love these two together! They needed a few pops of this vibrant color so planner Kelley Kohler of Haviland Events asked us to include a few decor pieces such as this vintage tin and clock.
Our delivery/pickup was actually a meetup in High Point so we didn’t get to see this historic venue in person, but these photos by Phylicia Willis Photography help us envision how beautiful the wedding was. Such a classic! Congratulations, Britt and Steve!

We are tickled to introduce you to our new grand baby, Isla Elaine! Recently SVT took off a couple of weeks from blogging and Miss Isla is the reason – who can blog or do much of anything else when you get to hold your first grand baby.
Our daughter, Taylor, and her husband, Cameron, invited us to meet their sweet girl so Randy and I drove 2 days to Boston, taking the longer, more scenic route to avoid the busy highway. It was good trip and the closer we got, the more excited we were to meet our baby granddaughter.
Our new names are Yayee (that’s me) and Grandy (which is the most perfect name for Randy!) Yayee is the name my twin brother called me because he had a hard time saying “Shelly” and I started calling him Yayee, too. I wish I knew why! It must have been a little confusing because Yayee always was the culprit behind any misbehavior. One sweet memory I’ll have forever is that my Aunt Maeline called me Yayee even when I was a grown woman. She had this sweet way of saying it that made me feel loved. It will be awhile, but I do look forward to hearing Isla call me Yayee.
Of course, as all grandparents would say, Yayee and Grandy thinks she’s the most adorable baby ever. Cameron and Taylor are smitten with this little one and we are, too.
Our blog hiatus is over and we have jumped back in with full force! This week has been busy – really good busy – and we are pleased that our vintage wares have been a part of 3 weddings and a styled shoot. Our clients rented an array of vintage items – retro, floral and blue & white dinner plates, clear and colored goblets, stainless flatware, glass salad plates, and a lovely hodge-podge variety of dessert plates. Three clients, three different visions, and all incorporating vintage for their guests’ tables.
Why is this notable? It means we have a great collection of vintage items that appeals to a variety of clients. Some love the patterns and designs, others want to uniquely express themselves in their table setting, but most are interested in being eco-responsible by reusing these treasures from the past.
SVT has the something old while doing something green – sharing beautiful vintage items in a responsible, ecological manner. Whether you are looking for classic green crinkle goblets or the delicate pink dinner plates, choosing us means you are choosing green. From vintage plates to vintage decor, our inventory is eco-friendly, rescued, restored, and ready for you to appreciate and share with your guests.
Two for one is always nice, right? Here’s what made our week – first, we provided rentals for a beautiful shot at Carolina Grove and worked with some of our favorite vendor friends in January; and second, the shoot was published this week in Wedding Chicks – “How to Incorporate Fine China Into Your Chic Microwedding”.
When Keys Events and Tierney Riggs Photography shared their design for this shoot at Carolina Grove, we knew instantly we wanted to be involved. Our vintage blue and white collection has grown over the last few years and we were excited that they wanted to include not only vintage place settings, but also decor pieces, including our two umbrella stands. With beautiful florals from The Foraged South, they certainly made a statement!
A bit of cheer was sent to us to start our new year!! The delightful news was the publication of an article that appears in the January/February 2021 issue of Southern Lady for which we were consulted. The article is beautifully presented in this lovely publication and we are so pleased to be mentioned.
The Legacy of Lace Touting both a rich history and perennial popularity, heirloom lace is unwavering in its versatile appeal. Written by Elizabeth Bonneer Czapski Styled by Melissa Sturdivant Smith Photographed by Stephanie Welbourne Steele.
Here’s an excerpt from the article which mentions us:
At Southern Vintage Table, an antique tableware rental company in Hillsborough, North Carolina, owner Shelly Heath shares a fascination with lace that she’s acquired for her events. But, she also believes that much of its draw, especially in our region, lies in nostalgic merit. “I think folks appreciate vintage lace because of the delicate and intricate designs as much as its personal history,” Shelly explains.
“If it has been handed down from previous generations, it carries a sentimental value that is priceless. Lace is also versatile – as a table covering, a hankerchief, or an embellishment on {clothing}.”
Southern Lady Magazine, Jan/Feb 2021, pages 45-50.
Of course, we are truly honored to have been asked about our deep appreciation for vintage lace. Our collection at Southern Vintage Table includes lace doilies, tablecloths, handkerchiefs, napkins, and even a boho-inspired lace curtain-backdrop. Let us know if you’d like to add a bit of lace to your next event!
Her soul overheard and replied, “It’s about time.”
As I read this quote I had an epiphany – I have loved creating, decorating, transforming, and arranging all of my life and haven’t given much thought as to why. Now, I understand.
My heart and soul need to create.
Our offerings of handcrafted items have brought us joy to create and now even more joy to share. They are all eco-friendly, natural, and repurposed – the hallmarks of a good steward of our planet. We hope you can imagine how they might be the perfect item for your next occasion!
Wood Rounds – Pedestals – Boxes
Wood may be the most versatile natural element. The live-edged rounds, purchased from a local vendor, were first dried and sanded. We then decoupaged one side with vintage newsprint and slightly stained the other with coffee to provide two different looks. Two have been decoupaged with blue & white paper. With these, you can define a space, elevate decor pieces, or hold dishes such as desserts.
Currently we are cutting fallen branches to make pedestals for small items. As seen in the opening photograph, these can hold votives, small plants, or simply be an architectural addition in a grouping.
Our favorite creation are these wooden boxes fashioned from old ceiling fan blades. Two of the same size were matched up for the sides, and the ends and bottoms were cut from recycled wood. The pieces were sanded and nailed together. So far, they have been used to hold cupcakes on the dessert table, stacked as steps to display individual pastries, and filled with florals as a centerpiece. How do you see them used at your event?

Macrame Bottle Votives – Bottle Vases
Macrame was a big hit in the 1970s and now making a comeback with the boho style. These recycled bottles have been covered with a macrame wrap and look so hip! Some can be used as votives and others as vases.

Lace, Cloth, Macrame Boho Backdrop Curtain
As our linen collection grew, several overlays were put to the side for reuse. We weren’t quite certain what that might entail, but we knew they would be perfect for a project. Well, here’s that project – a boho backdrop curtain. Along with cut strips of overlays, we added strips of vintage cloth, ribbon, lace, toile, and macrame rope. Crafted for a fall porch wedding, it is now hanging in our studio. Perhaps you can see this at your wedding or event?
Decoupage Bottles – Vases – Rocks – Rounds
Decoupaging is an amazing craft because you can totally transform something ordinary into a work of art. Most of these have been covered with paper napkins, but we have used vintage book pages and crafting paper as well. These days our glass bottles and jars don’t make it to the recycling bin – they are destined to become a decoupaged treasure!
Our handcrafted recycled and repurposed decor items are at our studio along with our vintage wares. These two blend together perfectly and belong in each other’s worlds.

We trust everyone celebrated Thanksgiving with gratitude, kindness, and optimism! Now onward to more winter holiday festivities while we continue to keep each other safe and healthy.
Today’s post shares images from a styled shoot at the Bill Scott Pavilion in Raleigh. This nature -filled venue inspired Primrose + Lily‘s design and Alicia Hite Photography snapped beautiful images. This venue is open and airy, with an updated shelter, a stately stone fireplace and mantle, and a gorgeous view of a tree-lined lake.
The incredible florals were created by Event Flouret. We love how fall berries and colored leaves embellished the flowers and greenery. Our vintage tableware and decor, including plates, flatware, glassware, candleholders, and peg votives, look splendid amongst these natural elements.
As we happily browsed through the photo gallery, we noticed that Primrose + Lily played with several different designs. Notice how the napkin presentation and place card vary in each of the place settings below. With so many options, how does one choose?
Lily + Primrose also explored different centerpiece arrangements. There’s a classic floral centerpiece, a vintage candelabra with candles, and the same candelabra with vintage peg votives. Since different venues have their own requirements regarding an open flame, these options are great to have.
Well done, Primrose + Lily! The styling variations showcased your talents beautifully. We look forward to our next collaboration!
