News – A Mitford Tea, Part II – A Table Set for Storytelling

Last week, we shared the inspiration behind our Mitford-themed tea—a gathering steeped in charm, community, and the spirit of Jan Karon’s beloved series. Today, we’re excited to continue that story with a few more images from that day.

As we look through this second collection of images, we’re reminded of what made this tea so special—not just the beautiful dishes and thoughtfully steeped teas, but the shared love of a good story, a slower pace, and the joy of being together.

Thanks for coming back! If you’re feeling inspired to host your own “Mitford Tea,” we’d love to help you curate a table that feels like home. Photos courtesy of The Mitford Museum Facebook and Sarah Thomas, Museum Director.

News – Tea with Jan Karon: A Mitford Tradition Continues

Earlier this month, we were delighted to be part of the annual Mitford Tea Party, a cherished event hosted by the Mitford Museum. This year, over 150 guests gathered to celebrate beloved author Jan Karon and get an exciting preview of her upcoming book, My Beloved, set to be released this October.

We’ve had the pleasure of being part of this special event for the past three years, and this year was truly a grand success! From the elegant table settings to the joyful conversations, every detail reflected the heartwarming spirit of Mitford.

Today, we’re sharing just a few lovely moments from the day, with photos courtesy of the Mitford Museum’s Facebook page.

As more photos from this lovely afternoon come in, we’ll be delighted to share them with you—there’s so much more Mitford charm to enjoy!

Southern Vintage Table Events – Tea Guests at the Mitford Museum

As promised, here are some photos taken at the third annual Spring Tea at the Mitford Museum held in Hudson, NC in honor of the book series written by native Jan Karon, seen in the photo above with her niece. Avid fans from far and wide attended this 140 seat event.

Guests, young and old, men and women, thoroughly enjoyed that May 18, 2024 afternoon sipping their tea with Jan and kindred fans. Along with hot tea, tasty tea treats were provided by Bluebird Custom Bakes in Hudson and Katz Catering in Lenoir. These lovely photographs were taken by Sminton Photography.

Take a peak at the party guests. You’ll enjoy see the smiling faces and the many designs of hats and fascinators!

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to bring our vintage tea dishes to your annual tea! Be sure to check out our previous post, Features-A Tea For the Mitford Museum.

Scenes from SVT – Vintage All Lit Up!

“In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.”
Aaron Rose

Vintage colored glassware lit up with twinkle lights creates a rainbow of beauty. Not quite sure if they would make any difference with the shelves filled with plates and teacups, Taylor strung the lights across the back walls. Well, you can see for yourself how magical and enchanting everything appears.

This week we were working on an upcoming wedding, and after stacking the tall vintage coupes in wired racks and putting them out of the way in the back of the studio, we were struck by their beauty against the twinkle lights tucked in the shelving.

On the shelf or in front, these lights emanate the irresistible, extraordinary beauty of everything vintage.

Vintage Feature – A Stunning Set of Vintage Hand Painted Tea Cups

Eleven vintage hand painted teacups have been on many adventures and now they have settled in at Southern Vintage Table. Gifted by the doctor who delivered my children and the mother of our client, these teacups carry much meaning for us.

Each teacup and saucer also has a small plate that carries the same floral theme. We’ll reveal each layer for you to marvel!

Vintage Features – The Beauty of Teacups and Teapots

Last month Southern Vintage Table provided tea accessories for the second annual Cynthia’s Primrose Tea at Mitford Museum in Hudson, NC. Once Jan Karon’s elementary school, The Mitford Museum hosts this fundraiser to further its “mission to advance the common good through literacy, creativity, and community.”

After selecting the teapots and teacups, we were inspired to take a few photos of these vintage beauties before they were packed up. Aren’t they lovely?

Vintage News – We Are Thankful

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As previous years’ posts have shared, our extended family meets every year for this favorite holiday, continuing a tradition started by our grandparents and parents over 50 years ago. Feasting, sharing memories, and catching up with family makes this holiday so special to all of us.

In honor of this season of gratitude, we want to give thanks for our good fortune at Southern Vintage Table. First, we are most grateful for our clients who have chosen our company to be a part of the wedding, luncheon, shower, dinner party, or corporate gathering. Meeting and helping you create the perfect celebration has been a great honor and sincere pleasure.

In the same vein, an enthusiastic shout out goes to our social media followers for keeping up with our business, liking and commenting on our posts, and just being there for us. We hope you know that showing your social media love is greatly appreciated!

We are also grateful to the creative vendors with whom we have worked to create amazing styled shoots. It is a joy to see how our pieces are used and we appreciate you inviting us to help.

And, finally, we are grateful for our new space. Since moving in last April, we have organized our vintage collections, met with numerous clients, and continue to update our offerings. This month we’ll concentrate on our decor and linens room and then we’ll be ready to give you a virtual tour!

Vintage Adventures – New Thrift Store Treasures at SVT

Vintage Dusky Blue Goblets

SVT has been in a busy, busy stretch with events and client meetings and in-between, we’ve been “procuring inventory, ” which is the fancy term for hitting the thrift stores. Hee hee! We thought you might want to see what we found these last two weeks. Although we can’t give away our secret places, we can say that these came from 4 of our favorite spots.

We mentioned these vintage dusky blue goblets in a recent Facebook post. It was a true vintage find – 9 total, 8 at one thrift shop and one more at another, all in the same day. This color is highly popular and we are so happy to add these to our collection!

These vintage silver-plated items are soooo nice! The compote needs a little polishing, but there are no dents nor pits. Imagine this filled with apples, lemons, or even a lovely floral bouquet! We love this unique flatware pattern, too. Found bagged up, when we got back to the studio we discovered that instead of stainless, it’s inlaid silver-plated. They will look terrific with our other vintage mixed patterns.

Perhaps the most atypical find were these vintage bobeches! These unique items are used to catch the wax from a taper candle. Some are plastic and some are glass but all are great to have in our inventory for someone looking to protect the surface under the candleholder.

You might think we found these two vintage tea pieces at the same place and time but that’s didn’t happen. They were at two separate thrift stores and found days apart but they do look so lovely together!

Finally, we came across these darling stoneware patterns. As vintage stoneware becomes more appreciated, we want to make certain we can accommodate our clients with enough for their guests!

Lastly, we’ve been contemplating our featured posts on Instagram and Facebook. Thanks to those who have chimed in – we hope to start soon!

When Stephanie contacted us, we invited her to visit our studio to “go shopping” for the vintage pieces she’d like to use. We love seeing how our vintage decor is sprinkled in these photos and are thrilled to share them with you!

Vintage News – A Graduation, Tea Party, & Wedding Reception

It’s another fun week ahead for us! Each of our three events next weekend have a unique story and we are pleased to share our vintage wares to each.

Four years ago, our client rented several of our vintage floral tablecloths to celebrate her daughter’s high school graduation. This week, her daughter is graduating from nursing school and she’s invited family and friends to honor this wonderful accomplishment. Again, the floral tablecloths will don her guest tables, along with our vintage glass dinner and dessert plates. So pretty!

Alexa and Alicia, our tea party clients, are hosting their first event for their community organization, The Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties. The Mother’s Day Tea will be held at Hill House, a beautiful, historic home in Durham and we know it’s going to be a huge success! We all are excited to see this day come!

Final details were being made last September for Cherry and Ned’s wedding but then came an unexpected guest, Hurricane Florence. They may have missed their original date but their nuptials will be this Saturday at this gorgeous venue, The Parlour at Manns Chapel. We are certain the wait is going to be sooo worth it!

So, that’s our week ahead! From Durham to Chapel Hill to Pittsboro, we know our our vintage treasures will be enjoyed and appreciated!
