Inspired. Appreciative. Thank YouWe have been delighted to take part in many events so far this year!  These past few months our vintage treasures have traveled to weddings, showers, styled shoots, wedding shows, and dinner parties in Chapel Hill, Durham, Pittsboro, Raleigh, Louisburg, Winston Salem, Virginia, and even West Virginia.  Sweet!

Even sweeter, though, are the four brides who recently posted these lovely comments on Wedding Wire.  We are oh-so pleased and humbled to share them with you today.

Shelly was wonderful to work with and provided beautiful china for my wedding at a very reasonable price. She helped me choose the perfect types and colors for the event. My guests were so complimentary about how beautiful they looked on the tables. I can’t thank Shelly enough and would definitely recommend Southern Vintage Table!

Thank you. We are inspired by you, grateful for your trust, and loved being a part of your celebration!

Vintage Feature – Our First Pinterest Board “Wish List” Order!

Southern Vintage Table
These are just some of the vintage lovelies used in our three events this week!

In spite of the rainy weather here in NC we’ve had a productive week at Southern Vintage Table. First, our china was picked up for a shoot designed by Southern Weddings at a lovely West Virginia venue. More will be coming on this, for sure. Then, we received two new orders for the week – one for a wedding and one for a bridal shower. And, as a final very bright spot to the week, we were asked to help with the wedding of a dear friend whose daughter is getting married next June. We do love being busy!

We are very excited, of course, to help with each of these events but two things made the bridal shower a pretty special request. Not only were we thrilled to work with Maria again – we helped with her wedding two years ago – but she became our first client to create a Pinterest board wish list for the items she wanted from our inventory. Yay!

We shared this planning idea in a recent post, “Vintage Tip – Collaborate with Us to Create a Wish List, and it worked great. Maria created a board for the shower, pinned items from our inventory, and added notes to the pins.  The part about adding the notes was Maria’s brilliant touch, and we appreciate this tweak to the process.  We easily provided a quote and started packing. As we said before, it’s easy, peezy and we look forward to collaborating with you!

Thought we’d end today’s post with one of our favorite photos of Maria & Jonathan’s reception tables.  Don’t you love those vintage goblets?  See more from this beautiful wedding here!

Vintage Feature – Additions to our Vintage Glassware Collection

Vintage Glassware from Southern Vintage Table

Our vintage glassware collection is growing!  These past few weeks we found 3 beautiful vintage patterns in 3 different colors made by 3 different American glass companies and all of them are wonderful. Let us introduce you to these beauties and the companies behind them.  The brief summaries of these American corporations are courtesy of Just Collecting and Tias.

Vintage Glassware from Southern Vintage TableColony Park Lane by Indiana Glass

“The Indiana Glass Company was founded in 1907 in Dunkirk, Indiana, and became well known for manufacturing a variety of high-class glass items such as auto head lenses, restaurant ware, crystal ware, vases and much more.

The company’s coloured glass items first became popular during the 1920s, and featured a variety of different coloured-press patterns. Some of their most popular patterns include Avocado, Sandwich, Tearoom, #612 Horseshoe, Indiana Custard and Pyramid, to name a few.

Even though the Indiana Glass Company closed its doors in 2002, Indiana glass products are still being produced by the Bartlett & Collins factory today.”

The Park Lane pattern was first produced in the mid 1950s and has been discontinued.  Source:  Just Collecting

Vintage Glassware from Southern Vintage TableVintage Grape Milk Glass by Smith Glass

“The company was established in 1907 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and despite being overlooked by many American glass collectors, is one of the few remaining hand-made glass factories in the United States. It is perhaps best known for producing the first headlight lens for the Model T Ford.

They began manufacturing colored glass in the early 1920s. Their most popular colors were cobalt, amethyst, yellow, amber, green and pink. The company finally gained nationwide recognition for their unique black glass formula, which set them apart from the competition of the time.

In 1975 the company was purchased by Owens-Illinois, Inc. of Toledo, Ohio, a glass container manufacturer. Smith continued to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary. L.E. Smith Glass Company was acquired by William Kelman in 2005 and is now known as Smith Glass Co.”

The best we could find insofar as dating the Vintage Grape Milk Glass pattern is up to the 1950s when the popularity of milk glass waned in the US.  Source – Just Collecting

Pink CollageChivalry by Libby-Rock Sharpe

“The Libbey Glass Company was one of the largest glass manufacturers in the United States of America during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In 1888, Edward Libbey moved his glass-manufacturing establishment from Massachusetts to Toledo, Ohio. They produced bottles, containers and window glass.

The Libbey Glass Company became even more profitable after Michael Owens, an inventor from Newark, Ohio, joined the firm. Owens developed a machine that could automatically produce bottles, tumblers, and glass chimneys. The company remains in operation in the twenty-first century. In 2004, it was the United States’ largest manufacturer of glass dinnerware, with plants in Louisiana, California, and Ohio, as well as in the Netherlands.”

Chivalry, dating from the mid 1980s, is available today in clear; however, the pink color is no longer manufactured.  Source:  Tias

Southern Vintage Table Event – Three Terrific Takeaways from Rose Hill Styled Shoot

Rose Hill Styled Shoot by Events by Memory Lane

Recently I received the most exciting invitation!  Stacy Newburg, event planner and owner of Events by Memory Lane, was organizing her first styled shoot and asked if we would like to participate. Recalling our wonderful collaboration at Anna & Anthony’s wedding last summer, I said “yes!” and that was even before she revealed her blue & white vintage Southern elegant theme, a look I absolutely love.

After selecting the vintage table settings, linens, and decor pieces together one afternoon, Stacy then invited me to help on the day of the shoot. Intrigued to see the behind-the-scenes of a photo shoot, I just couldn’t pass this up. Even though we have provided items for many styled shoots and have appreciated the beautiful photographs from them, I haven’t actually seen the entire process  at work and this was my chance!

Well, let me say, the day of the styled shoot was busy, busy, busy, and pretty darn awesome!  The weather was gorgeous at this breathtaking historic venue, the vendors organized, models dressed and styled, and photographers on the go. Stacy planned everything, from the table settings to the boutonnieres to the enthusiastic and beautiful models. Breakfast and lunch were served, and a detailed plan set for all to follow. It was quite impressive to see the day play out.

Here are three takeaways from this marvelous day!

One – It requires a lot of coordination to pull off a styled shoot. As you can appreciate below, a full lineup of vendors is needed to create a mockup wedding day. Many, many kudos to Stacy for selecting such a terrific group of wedding professionals, and for her passion and joy.

Two It’s all in the details. The teamwork of Stacy and Tiffany was phenomenal.  When the professional photos are ready, you’ll see exactly what I mean!

Three – Being a professional photographer takes technical skill, an artistic eye, and endless energy. As I watched Tiffany and Aaron throughout the day, they were busy practically the entire time, taking photos of every tiny detail, encouraging and prompting the models on every shot, and making absolutely certain they captured that perfect photo. Although I have long appreciated the fine work of professional photographers, seeing these two in action took my admiration to an even higher level.

More photos coming soon! I want to sincerely thank everyone who took part in this day. I loved meeting each and every one of you and look forward to the next time we meet!

Southern Vintage Table Event – Vibrant, Vivid, & Vintage Dinner Party

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

We totally love setting the tables for big family events like weddings and family reunions, but we are also absolutely delighted to help with intimate celebrations.  These smaller gatherings allow us the opportunity to showcase some of our speciality china and decor collections. And, this past weekend we were so pleased to set the table for a festive dinner party.

Our client was hosting a wine and dinner party featuring Spanish wines and dishes. Her vision included vivid spring colors of pinks and greens and we knew our lovely hand-painted pieces from Blue Ridge Pottery and Stetson China would be the perfect fit. Paired with our vintage printed tablecloth, these bold, vibrant patterns from the 1940s-1960s set the perfect mood for her guests. Our table creation was vibrant and stunning, ready for a fun evening with delicious food and Spanish wine tastings!

Vintage Tip – Collaborate with Us to Create a Wish List!

Collaborate with Southern Vintage TablePinterest is one of the very best social media tools out there – really. On a personal level, it’s perfect for archiving ideas about any topic, hobby, or interest you might have whether it’s recipes you want to try, movies you love, or DIY tips. For a business, it’s a terrific way to reach potential clients by visually showcasing your inventory, work, and visions.

Now, there is another way Pinterest can help a business directly connect with their clients. We didn’t think about it until we saw a blog post by Old South Vintage Rentals, and it’s brilliant!  Consider using Pinterest to create a “wish list” with Southern Vintage Table.  Even if you don’t already use Pinterest, it’s very easy to set up. Our suggestion is to create a “secret” board, invite us to be a collaborator, and let us know how we can help you.

There are several places you can peruse and then pin our inventory. Look through our many Pinterest boards, our website, especially our inventory slide shows (which we still have more to add), and our Instagram posts. Once you have finished archiving items on our collaborative board, let us know, share details and numbers, and we can provide a quote.

Easy, peezy!  Looking forward to collaborating with you!

Vintage Feature – Progress on our 2016 Goals!

Vintage Stoneware Patterns at Southern Vintage Table

Here in North Carolina many of us love snow! This weekend, with a mixture of snow and sleet, our landscape is now bedecked in white. In between watching the endless snow reports on tv and cat-napping on the couch, we are pleased to share that progress has been made on our 2016 goals!

First, as displayed above, we created a wonderful photographic splash of some of our vintage stoneware patterns. We pulled these cool dinner plates for a couple as they plan their barn wedding coming up in the fall.  More to be done – organize, count, and photograph – but it’s a start in our quest to showcase the sub-collections of our vintage dinnerware.

Our style for tackling tasks is to work on several projects at a time. So, we also unpacked our collection of vintage doilies for our Linen Inventory page. We now have stacks of petite, medium, large, and grand vintage doilies. Tablecloths, overlays, and placemats are next on the list. Here’s our stack of 50 petite vintage doilies!

Our biggest accomplishment is the recently pressed Vintage Planters Inventory page.  We love these planters that come in all colors, materials, and shapes!  With a gorgeous bouquet or small plant tucked inside, they will add drama and color to any table.

That’s our week!  The snow will soon melt, which is why we love it in NC, and we’ll continue focusing on our goals in the upcoming weeks. Robert Collier perfectly captured this week’s progress with this quote…

Southern Vintage Table Event – Country Beauty at Ruby’s Place

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NCSouthern Vintage Table had another Thanksgiving table to set this season and though it’s not possible to trump this favored holiday, this dinner was pretty special – it was the first affair at Ruby’s Place, a newly renovated farmhouse in rural Orange County. Because Ruby’s Place has not officially opened its doors to folks who will want to rent this charming country retreat, we can only tease you with our lovely vintage tablescapes!

Our recipe for the Riley Thanksgiving dinner was simple – hues of greens, silver, and white. After draping the tables with our vintage tablecloths, we set the tables for the sixteen guests. The place settings included a mixed set of vintage white plates, dazzling green goblets, a wonderful assortment of silver-plated flatware patterns, and vintage napkins.

After gathering greenery around the premises, we created simple bouquets for the centerpieces and mantle.  The medley of vintage green vases, petite stoneware pitchers, and votives beautifully complimented the place settings.  With small pumpkins scattered, the tables were ready for the festive family dinner.

More coming soon about the formal debut of Ruby’s Place, owned and operated by the award-winning RSVP-Events team.  This charming “home-away-from-home” may be absolutely perfect for your next affair!  And, yep, that’s Ruby!

Thanksgiving Tables

Southern Vintage Table Event – Bass Family & Friends Thanksgiving Reunion

It was the perfect day for our annual Bass Family Reunion!  This wonderful tradition began in the mid-60s by Wiley and Susie Mae’s children – Christine, Aline, Weldon, and Wiley Jr – as a time set aside each Thanksgiving for the extended Bass family to share a meal and reconnect. Every year since, we have continued this tradition, and although many dear family members are no longer with us, we remember and honor them by being together.

For this year’s gathering, Southern Vintage Table set the tables with our vintage blue & white china patterns and amber glassware collection. Our mix of creamy-white table linens were covered with burlap runners and adorned with petite arrangements of greenery, votives, and pumpkins. Large bouquets, created by Rowena, were placed at the entrance table and on the food tables. (Many thanks to the setup crew – Sandy, Amanda, Travis, Allie, and Rowena!)

With the 60+ family members and friends bringing their favorite dishes for the buffet line, we enjoyed an incredible feast. (Just for the record, some of those dishes are assigned to certain chefs in the family because, we all know, they make the BEST … turkey & dressing, baked ham, mashed potatoes, collards, sweet potato casserole, chicken-n-dumplings, deviled eggs, chocolate eclair cake, coconut cake, carrot cake, and many more …)

For the newcomers, we loved seeing you and hope you’ll come again.  To the folks who were not able to make it, we missed you and hope to see you Thanksgiving 2016!  As shared in our previous post from Thanksgiving 2013, “once again, the Bass Family came together on Thanksgiving.  We hugged, we feasted, and we parted, feeling content and connected.”

PS – We must remember to get a group photo next year!  Now, who will be in charge?  (Insert smiley/winky face here…)
