Vintage Teapots at Mitford Tea

Southern Vintage Table Events – Tea Guests at the Mitford Museum

As promised, here are some photos taken at the third annual Spring Tea at the Mitford Museum held in Hudson, NC in honor of the book series written by native Jan Karon, seen in the photo above with her niece. Avid fans from far and wide attended this 140 seat event.

Guests, young and old, men and women, thoroughly enjoyed that May 18, 2024 afternoon sipping their tea with Jan and kindred fans. Along with hot tea, tasty tea treats were provided by Bluebird Custom Bakes in Hudson and Katz Catering in Lenoir. These lovely photographs were taken by Sminton Photography.

Take a peak at the party guests. You’ll enjoy see the smiling faces and the many designs of hats and fascinators!

Scenes from SVT – The Beauty of Vintage Colored Glass

We finally did it! The beautiful vintage colored glass pieces are now all lit up! Without an outlet close by, the former location just didn’t work. Now, they dazzle under the lights. This transformation has been on the to-do list for at least a year and, with Sarah’s help, we’ve crossed this one off.

This isn’t all we’ve been working on but those projects aren’t ready for their reveal. Stay tuned!

Features – A Tea for the Mitford Museum

“Mitford is not just a place to live, it’s a place that lives within us.” – Jan Karon (Bookeye)

It was our second trip to Hudson, NC to help with an annual fundraising tea at The Hub Station which houses the Mitford Museum. Many folks will recognize the fictional town of Mitford, aka Hudson, as it was the center of a series of 14 popular novels written by Jan Karon.

This annual tea, set to benefit “the museum’s plans to develop StoryLab, a facility that will house our oral history library, traveling exhibitions, and a creator’s space for youth,” was set for 140 guests. After days of preparation, we packed vintage teacups, teapots, sugar and creamers, luncheon plates, flatware, goblets, and platters.

After unpacking our very full van, we wandered around this historical gem, taking photos along the way. Once a public school, the town has created an art center for the community. Along with the Mitford Museum, a tribute to Jan’s fictional town, there’s local artwork donning the walls and in a shop known as The Red Awning Gallery featuring local artists creations, Three Doors Down which is a really cute bar, Junk Gypsy Angel Boutique, and Happy Endings Bookstore. Upstairs is where the magic happens – artists’ studios, art classrooms, a fiber art center, a performing arts studio, and a music studio. There’s even a cool space called “Creations after Midnight Studio.”

To find out more about the museum and hometown author Jan Karon, watch this video, “Learn About Best-Selling Author Jan Karon at the Mitford Museum | NC Weekend | PBS North Carolina.”

We look forward to hearing how everything went when we return to Hudson on Tuesday. Hope your week is filled with many happy moments!

Southern Vintage Table Sign

News – Southern Vintage Table’s Outdoor Sign is Up!

Southern Vintage Table’s sign is finally up on the front of the main building at Boone Square! Even though we’ve been here for more than a year, seeing it when we drive into the parking lot evokes a sense of accomplishment being part of this long-standing business community. Shout outs go to Laser Imaging, Lindsey, Jay, Sam, and Dink for helping us with this milestone.

During May and June we provided our vintage tableware services to 16 fabulous clients with their tea parties, engagement dinners, baby showers, and wedding receptions and it’s time to connect with friends, catch up with our favorite series, and maybe even read a book or two!

But, before we close out for today, here are just a few memories we have of our clients’ table designs and vintage selections from these past two months. What a delightful variety!

Vintage Tea Parties for Baby & Bride

Southern Vintage Table Events – Tea Parties for Baby & Bride

New mom or bride – celebrating these life-changing events with the important women in our lives is a beloved time-honored tradition. Showering the new mom or bride with attention and gifts while serving yummy refreshments is why we love these parties.

Hosting a shower tea party is so much fun! With the pretty vintage teacups, teapots, and serving pieces, the shower is instantly elegant. Today’s photos come courtesy of two clients who would agree!

The first event was a tea party baby shower, held in New Bern at the new mom’s home. This buffet table is gorgeous and the array of teacups is so pretty!

Christine honored her daughter with a bridal shower, held in Winston Salem at her home. Note that tables were set with the vintage tea place settings The romantic touches with the tea place settings beautifully suit this sweet occasion.

Thanks for sharing these photos with us, Lynn and Christine. Baby or bride, a tea party shower is a wonderful way to celebrate these beautiful moments. (BTW, both clients picked up and returned the rentals from our studio. This option is also available to you.)

Southern Vintage Table Events – A Splendid September Day for a Wedding

We distinctly recall this day – it was one of our first glorious September days in North Carolina and it was Katherine and Colby’s wedding day. After several reschedules in 2020 through 2021 due to health safety concerns, outdoor gatherings started opening up. And, if we might speculate, this absolutely perfect day was meant to be for them and their guests.

Our contributions to their tables were our beautiful light blue vintage goblets which adorned each place setting. The color of the sky and sea, light blue signifies trust, loyalty, and sincerety and they sparkle with joy down the tables. As you can see in the details shot below, we also provided our vintage blue and white dessert plates.

Held at the amazing historic Parlour at Manns Chapel with their lush landscape of flowers and greenery, Radian Photography‘s images capture their story. We mostlyhave included those that feature our pieces, but trust us, the gallery is as glorious as the day.

A beautiful day, venue, and couple. Thank you, Katherine and Colby, for allowing us to be a part of this long-overdue celebration!

Southern Vintage Table Events – Her Bridal Shower Tea Party is “Beyond Beautiful”

I wanted to share these images with you from my bridal shower.
Thanks to you, it was beyond beautiful!!
– Dana

Yes, indeed, pouring tea, eating a medley of sweet and savory, and chatting with best friends before your wedding day has to be on the list of meaningful ways to celebrate your upcoming nuptials. These photos come courtesy of Dana, the bride-to-be, who was so pleased when she arrived at her mother’s home. Her mother, Andrea, knew Dana would love this experience so she visited the studio to pull together these lovely, vintage tea party pieces.

Dana, we think it’s beautiful, too! Bravo, Andrea!

See ya’ll this weekend when we deliver and set your beautiful vintage reception tables. Sooooo looking forward to it!

Styled Shoot – More of the Patriotic Shoot at The Old Cotton Gin

Hey there! We are back from our blogging break and also back to this uniquely styled shoot sponsored by ElopeNC. Several posts ago we shared a few of Wendy Jade Photography‘s photos taken in this cool, historic building in Warrenton, NC. You may want to skip back to see and read this post, A Quick See with More to Come.

Designer Meagan of Magnolia Collective created several different looks using our vintage blue & white, red & white, and floral plates. These were accompanied by our vintage goblets, silver-plate flatware, and assortment of colorful napkins with wooden napkin rings. Vintage decor also adorned the tables – books, teacups, wooden candleholders, and blue & white vases. Finally, you’ll also notice the small compotes filled with strawberries and berries – the perfect fresh touch to this colorful tablescape!

Check out ElopeNC’s blog post, “Vintage Patriotic Summer Elopement @The Old Cotton Gin.” Many of the vendors provide their insights and thoughts about being a part of this lovely shoot.
