Southern Vintage Table Event – Bass Family Thanksgiving Reunion

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

My first memory of our annual Thanksgiving family reunion is from the 1960s. The 9 of us, my mom and 8 children, piled into the car. With food dishes in our laps, we headed to Dunn to meet up with the rest of the Bass family. Grandma Susie and Grandpa Wiley lived in Dunn and we gathered at their church for our feast. As years passed, we have moved the location several times, from Durham to Efland to Chapel Hill and now Rolesville, but more than 40 years later, the gang continues this wonderful family tradition.

Since I started collecting plates for Southern Vintage Table, I envisioned using stoneware at a Southern family reunion. As my sisters and I planned this year’s gathering, I suggested we use this collection from the 60s, 70s and 80s to set our tables. With the array of vintage stoneware patterns in blues, golds, greens, browns and yellows, the table setting would also include vintage textured glasses, placemats and cloth napkins.

Rowena, Sandy and I arrived at the Masonic Lodge late Wednesday morning and many hours later, we transformed the rustic meeting room for our 70 Bass relatives and friends. With help from Sandy’s friend, Rose, we covered the tables with brown paper and used placemats to color block the stoneware patterns. Between the sets of 6 plates we designed a simple, natural tablescape with magnolia leaves, pine cones, sweetgum balls and moss. With the striking orange lilies from Fernrock Farm, a cluster of magnolia leaves, twigs and vintage Mason jars, our tables were ready.

Here’s a collage of photos of the Bass family and friends before, during and after our Thanksgiving meal. After the meal and with everyone’s help, we quickly got the tables cleared, the dishes washed and packed, the floors swept and the furniture moved back into position. Thank you, Russ and Cait, for sharing your photos!

Since our first Thanksgiving reunion, several dear members of our family have left us and each time we get together, we honor them – Susie and Wiley, Jack and Neva, Toot and Maeline, Chester and Lois, Bill, Gerrie and Mike. To the folks visiting other relatives and to the ones who got snowed in, we missed you and hope to see you next year.

Once again, the Bass Family came together on Thanksgiving. We hugged, we feasted and we parted, feeling content and connected. ‘Till next year, Bass Family and Friends!

Planning a family reunion or a rustic wedding?  Consider using our stoneware collection at Southern Vintage Table!

Stacks of vintage china place settings are ready to set the table!

It was her turn to host the monthly wine club dinner and Rowena wanted to do something special for her friends. The wine club’s mission is to ferret out the best wines in every possible category. For each meeting the members contribute a dish for the meal and then they try different vintages of the featured wine.  A difficult task but these dedicated women are up for it!

This month’s featured wine was Reislings and what would make this festive event even more fun?  An assortment of vintage china!  Rowena arranged for Southern Vintage Table to set her table and each guest enjoyed a lovely unique place setting from our elegant collection with themes of pink and green.  The final “plat de résistance” to help uncover the best Reisling vintage – an assortment of vintage hats!

A Southern Vintage Table Event: A Family Dinner

Image
The Riley’s celebrated Jamie’s life with his family at their home with his favorite meal.

Jamie was a dear friend of my sister’s husband. They had been best pals ever since they were toddlers and had remained friends through their teenage years and adulthood.  They were at each other’s weddings, coached their sons’ baseball’s teams together and played golf on weekends.  When Phil heard that Jamie had passed away one morning, it was a life changing moment.

In a flurry, Jamie’s boys were coming home with their families and arrangements had to be made.  My sister wanted to pay tribute to her husband’s best friend and his family in a way only she could do  – prepare her home styled meal she had made for Jamie every time he came for dinner.  The menu was meatloaf, pinto beans, squash and biscuits.  She asked me to set the table for her special guests which I really wanted to do, especially for Marie.  You see, Marie, the mother of Jamie’s three boys, helped our family through our most challenging months when my twin brother passed away last year.  As a masseuse, Reiki master and family friend, Marie’s healing methods helped all of us cope, including my brother, Mike.  We will always be grateful for her calming guidance and spirituality.

Sharon prepared the meal, rented the tables and chairs and we set the table for her guests.  This evening will be forever remembered by Jamie’s family as a time of deep sadness yet also of beauty and love, as their family begins their path to healing after losing someone they all dearly loved.

Southern Vintage Table Event: Stock-the-Bar Wedding Shower

A beautiful vintage milk glass compote was center stage on the buffet table.

Kelsey’s and Joe’s themed Stock-the-Bar wedding shower was a huge success! For the beautiful brunch buffet and dessert table, Southern Vintage Table featured our elegant vintage collection.  Our mixed and matched vintage dishes and platters were stacked high with mounds of homemade sweet potato biscuits of ham and turkey along with two warm quiches.  The fresh fruit salad looked delicious in the milk glass compote and milk glass footed bowl. Smaller compotes were available for guests to fill with the fresh fruit.

The vintage stoneware china was great with the four flavors of wings, cheese and crackers, and beer at the kitchen counter station.  Guests loved this collection, especially the vintage green and gold glassware.

The yummy desserts were displayed on a cupcake tower with extras placed on a beautiful vintage platter.  Mixed and matched tea cups were ready for coffee or tea to help finish off a fun family gathering honoring Kelsey and Joe.  Here’s an interesting china story that came up:  One of Kelsey’s relatives shared that one of the china patterns on the dessert table came free with a box of detergent.  Now, that’s pretty cool!
