Tables at Friends of James Beard Benefit

Southern Vintage Table Events – Vintage Tableware Goes to a Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner

On our post about a month ago, we teased you with photos of vintage gravy boats and green goblets. As promised, we are ready to reveal more about where they went and the mission of a James Beard Foundation dinner.

For foodies and restauranteurs, the James Beard Foundation is synonymous with great food, restaurants, and chefs. According to the Foundation’s website, “The James Beard Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a mission to celebrate, support, and elevate the people behind America’s food culture and champion a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability.”

Akin to the Oscars, they also have yearly awards in many categories, such as Outstanding Restaurateur, Outstanding Chef, Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Pastry Chef, and Outstanding Baker. They also have regional awards and NC is in the Southeast Division. Did you know that North Carolina had 9 nominees for the Best Chef in 2022? Impressive, right? Even more impressive is Chai Pani, a restaurant in Asheville, NC was named the Outstanding Restaurant of 2022 and Ricky Moore, chef of the Saltbox Seafood Joint in Durham, NC was Southeast Regional Best Chef. Wow!

In addition to the yearly awards, the Friends of James Beard Benefit is an opportunity for restaurants and chefs to showcase their culinary talents while raising monies to support the Foundation programs. These occur every month all over the United States.

This is where we come in! Katie Choate invited us to be a part of a benefit family-style dinner hosted by chef Jake Wood, owner of Lawrence BBQ in RTP. Katie and Jake chose vintage china platters and bowls, glass bowls, silver-plated flatware and serving utensils, and a gorgeous punch bowl. Each of these were filled with freshly prepared meats, vegetables, and salads. Below is the announcement for the Holiday Soirée with Lawrence Barbecue.

Step back in time for an intimate, 1960’s-inspired holiday party at Milburnie Fishing Club, hosted by chef Jake Wood of Lawrence Barbecue, named one of Southern Living Magazine’s Best New ‘Cue Joints in the South. For this special dinner, Jake will pay homage to Granny Helen Lawrence’s holiday table with a fabulous family menu. Local favorites N. Sea. Oyster Co., Trophy Brewing, Young Hearts Distillery as well as Napa’s esteemed Reynolds Family Winery will all be featured.

Styled Shoot – A Stunningly Vibrant Shoot Inspired by Frida Kahlo

I was a child who went about in a world of colors.” – Frida Kahlo (Spanish Mamma)

Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s greatest artists and the inspiration for Emily Katherine Events styled shoot, “is remembered for her self-portraits, pain and passion, and bold, vibrant colors. She is celebrated in Mexico for her attention to Mexican and indigenous culture and by feminists for her depiction of the female experience and form.” – FridaKahlo.org

We think you’ll agree that vibrancy and passion are beautifully portrayed in this shoot! The gorgeous floral creations by Sparks and Sand Floral Design are a vision of heavenliness, and of course, the two models perfectly depict Frida and her partner. Her headpiece, dress and jewelry, and his suit are extraordinarily on point, especially when compared to Frida’s self portraits. The talented Cirque91 Photography exquisitely captured everything.

You’ll see many of our vintage pieces on the sweetheart table including the linens and place settings. The colorful vintage goblets, bottles, vases, and candleholders make a bold statement that we think Frida herself would approve.

The dessert table with the beautiful cake and desserts by Happily Desserted also capture Frida’s love for vivid colors. Our vintage touches included the cake stand, dessert plates, gold flatware, and colorful bottles.

“I would like to give you everything I never had, but not even then would you know
how beautiful is it to love you.” – Frida Kahlo (Spanish Mamma)

Bravo, Emily Katherine Events and sponsoring vendors! We are in love with this shoot and look forward to working with you again!

Southern Vintage Table Events – An Afternoon Birthday Tea Party

Celebrating a birthday with friends is always wonderful and when you add a tea party to the mix, the occasion transforms into a chic affair! This occasion was orchestrated by Curtis of The Rocky Face Tavern in Canton for his client and we were delighted to share our vintage tea collection with them.

After several emails with Curt, we prepared the order – for each guest there was a vintage teacup, small plate, and silver-plated flatware. For each table, we included a tiered stand, two teapots, sugar and creamer, compotes for jam and curd, and a lemon dish. Assorted serving flatware, including tiny spoons and sugar tongs, were packed.

Pieces were grouped by colors – green, pink, light blue, maroon, yellow, and blue/white – so each table had a unique look. To help the venue with the setup, we took photos of each theme and then organized them in the racks and crates accordingly.

Curt shared that it was a grand success! From looking at his photos, you can see that guests arrived in style with hats and gloves, ready for an afternoon tea with friends. Looking forward to working with you again, Curt!

Scenes from SVT – November 27, 2022

Hi there! This week’s Scenes from SVT includes brass centerpieces used on our family’s Thanksgiving table, new vintage plate patterns, a “sneak peek” from a recent wedding, a sister visit, and the latest setting table’s tablescape at our studio.

Our large family reunion had to be postponed again this year due to sickness but we enjoyed a grand feast at my sister’s home. The food was amazing – my sisters are great chefs – and we helped by providing fall centerpieces and table coverings. Filled with grasses, fresh eucalyptus, and fir sprigs our understated decor fit this season’s gathering.

We did do some baking for the feast – the lime tarts and sweet potato pie came with us!

Here are our new vintage plates! The second, third, and fourth were gifted to us by Carrie, Lee, and Margaret. We and our future clients thank you! Your family heirlooms will be enjoyed by many.

Now for the best photo of the day – this is a sneak peek shared by Shannon of her daughter’s wedding tables. Our vintage amber goblets gleam and glow on their tables. More will be coming.

Our sisters’ visit was fun! Rowena came hunting for vintage pieces for her tapas wine party. Pink is her favorite color and, no surprise, she managed to incorporate it into her Christmas theme. With vintage pink and red goblets, colorful vintage small plates, gold flatware, and assorted decor, her guests will be delighted!

Lastly, sister Janis immediately admonished us because we had not decorated for Christmas. After they left, this pretty vintage cloth was pulled out, along with vintage wood candleholders, candles, and a wooden tray. Also, lots of pine cones, which we always have on hand. Not too bad for a quick makeover!

Southern Vintage Table Events – A Perfect Day for Nina and Matt

It was one of the most perfect days in October. Cooler temperatures, sunny skies, and friends and family gathered together to celebrate the nuptials of Nina and Matt at the amazing Chapel Hill Carriage House. Photographed by Wendy Jade Photography, this day will be sweet memories for many folks for many years!

Vintage Reception Tables

Nina and Matt chose the soft, sweet colors of pink and green for their reception tables and they do look especially pretty. The vintage floral plates were carefully chosen for each table to coordinate with the vintage goblets days before the wedding day. (Photos of this day with Nina, Denise, and mom at the studio are near the end.) After this gallery, you can see these eight unique vintage plates on a table and the final look is divine!

Picking out plates for your wedding day is a lot of fun!

Congratulations, you two! We were delighted to have our vintage plates and goblets at your perfect wedding day. Along with your family and friends, we have delightful memories of our time together! Best wishes for many joyful, fun days ahead! (We love this photo!)

We are so grateful for this marvelous Wedding Wire review!

Wonderful Dishware from Shelly!

We rented dinner plates, dessert plates, coffee cups, and water goblets from Shelly for our wedding on October 22,2022. The plates she has available are so unique and beautiful, and my mom, mom’s best friend, and I had so much fun going and picking them all out. I had a very specific vision so Shelly let us come and pick out the plates for each table setting. Every time you go back to the stacks you find a new, beautiful plate to add into the selection! Shelly is really nice, and she handled dropping off, picking up, and cleaning all of the dishware before and after the event. Her selection of vintage plates is amazing and her customer service is as well! I highly recommend Southern Vintage Table for weddings and any other events where you might want an elegant looking table!

Vintage Teal Goblets

Scenes from SVT – November 13, 2022

Hi all! We are happy you have checked in with us this week! Today you’ll see who came by this past weeks for a consultation, some new additions to our vintage colored glassware collection, and a few other cool items we’ve picked up. Lastly, we have made a progress in one corner of the main room that we are quite pleased to show you.

First, you may have noticed that we have a new rustic table in the main room. Bought at closing sale at a local country store, it needed a little work. Nails, staples, and tacks were removed and then the entire surface was sanded. The table was finally transformed with a coating of beeswax. We love the final look!

These lovely people came by these past two weeks to design their wedding reception tables. They all enjoyed having the hands-on opportunity to experience this process as their personalities came through with their unique tablescapes.

New vintage goblets are now on the shelves! We added more blue, amber, light teal, and pink goblets. Some of these will be packed for next weekend’s wedding!

A few other items came in this week! Blue and yellow go so well together and we now have four accent pieces. Take a look at the black candelabra we found. Who will be the first to use this one?

Finally, this corner in the front room is better organized. Inside those bins are vintage mugs and teacups sorted by color and style. They are ready for that hot mug of cocoa, tea, or coffee you’ll be serving at your soiree!

This coming week our vintage teacups and salad plates are headed to a book club meeting in Durham and over 150 amber goblets will adorn wedding reception tables in Goldsboro. Hope you all have a great week!

Southern Vintage Table Events – Stunning Summer Wedding in Hillsborough

Today we are celebrating the wedding of Sterling and Leo. Held in Sterling’s home town of Hillsborough at the family home, this chic boho affair was truly resplendent.

Our part in their celebration was providing our colorful vintage goblets seen sprinkled on the reception tables. The dessert table, filled with the some of the most delicious treats we’ve ever seen, baked by Kim’s Bake Shop, featured our colored glass cake stands and platters. You can also get a glimpse of the carefully curated selection of our eclectic vintage dessert plates.

Typically, we only showcase photos of our own wares, and you can see our vintage goblets on the tables, but we mostly chose this photo gallery from Klose Up Photography because they exude love and friendship. Family and friends were truly jubilant as these two pledged their love and allegiance to one another.

Wow, Sterling and Leo – what a fun, joyful, and beautiful party! After spending just a little time with you two, we knew each of you had found your truest love. Best wishes on your journey together!

We want to mention that Sterling and Leo choose many local Hillsborough vendors and we truly thank them for that! Here’s a photo of them at our studio selecting the goblets for both their rehearsal dinner and reception. Aren’t they adorable?
