Vintage Feature – Shelves Are Filling Up!

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

Oh my goodness, it has been an incredible week! My aching muscles and feet are a testament to the progress we have made on our studio move. Look at these shelves, filled with our vintage treasures and wares. No longer crammed in crates or drawers, they now are easily admired and seen!

There’s still more to do to get our new studio ready but we are making progress every day. We even greeted three clients this week. Gotta run – my car is loaded up and ready to go!

Vintage Feature – Our First Studio Update

Yep, we are getting there! The floor, first covered with blue carpet, now has two fresh coats of paint.  Stuff is coming in, load by load -thanks to Randy, Taylor, Cameron, and Sam – and we are now working on our primary shelving for our vintage wares.

Don’t you love these shelves? They were part of a store liquidation sale in Burlington. Carrie, Bill, and I loaded them up and brought them to our studio.  (Believe me, that’s saying a lot – those shelves are heavy!) The skeletons of both rows are now assembled, shelves are being covered with pretty wallpaper, and soon will be filled our inventory.

But, the best news is that we had our first client pickup from our new digs and met with several clients as well. Both Amy and I are trying to enjoy each step along the way but we also can’t wait until it’s all ready!

Vintage Tips – Make Your Own Tiered Stand, Part 2

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

Scones with jam and lemon curd, cucumber sandwiches, and chocolate-covered strawberries – sounds like a tea party, right? Well, almost. These delicious treats need to be presented properly to your guests, and yes, that means pretty vintage tiered stands.

This week we have been preparing for a reception tea party to be held in Asheville next weekend for a very special bride, Jess. Her mother wants everything to be tea-party-perfect so we’ve been assembling and making tiered stands for each table. So far we have 11 ready with only 4 left to prepare and assemble.

One of our older posts, “Make Your Own Tiered Stand,” has tips for making a tiered stand and the basics are the same. If you drilling into hard porcelain, we have a new tip to add – use a diamond-coated drill bit. Two biggies while using this bit – the drill bit needs to be constantly bathed in water and you only need slight pressure on the plate as it grinds the porcelain down. Diamond Drill BitsA second tip is to position the drill bit at an angle to start an indentation in the porcelain. Otherwise, the bit jumps around and it’s difficult to get it to stay put. After you get a nice quarter moon-shaped groove, you then can begin to move the drill slowly to its 90-degree angle and continue grinding through the plate. Patience and arm power also are needed!

Once finished with your three plates, put them together with the hardware, get the scones in the oven, and start cutting those cucumbers! Of course, we are more than happy to provide these vintage tiered stands along with the other teatime essentials. Mark the date on your calendar for your tea party and give us a call!

Vintage Feature – Hip & Versatile Vintage Planters

Some sit flat and others have feet or a pedestal. They come in a variety of shapes, textures, and materials. Most are solid colored but some are tinged with an accent shade. And, they are perfect for low floral arrangements while adding a hip, cool zing to the table. We’re talking about vintage planters and we definitely have a “thing” for them!

Here’s a sampling of our vintage pottery collection!

Southern Vintage Table Event – We’ve Got Big News!

Yep, this is big. Really big. Hugely big. This month Southern Vintage Table is moving to a studio space in Hillsborough!  Yay!!

This is incredibly exciting for both SVT and our studio partner, Amy Wurster of Knots ‘n Such. We both are eager to take this step in building our businesses and it just feels so right!

Behind this door will be Knots ‘n Such and STV’s shared studio!

April and May are going to be incredibly busy for us as we pack, unpack, and organize our wares but, nonetheless, exhilarating. I can’t wait to see shelves and shelves filled with vintage plates, goblets, and other treasures for our clients to browse through. Be on the lookout for progress reports and an invitation to come visit!

PS – The “M” on the keychain is for my given name, Michele, and the Tile, well, that’s probably self-explanatory…

PPS – Amy is the cutie holding the keys and that’s me fantasizing about all those shelves. Haha!

If you’d like us to print and insert the table numbers (we’ll make certain to center them, too -haha! ) or pickup early so you can, please ask.

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

Today we’d like to share a few additions to our vintage collections. They include a new glassware color, a new vintage china pattern, and a new batch of vintage colored candleholder votives. Here they are!

Brown is the latest color to be added to our vintage glassware collection. With hues of deep chocolate to light caramel, these goblets and tumblers present many design possibilities!  Currently we have 20+ and plan to add more patterns soon.

I was strolling through a thrift store this week and found a stack of gorgeous vintage Homer Laughlin luncheon and salad plates. And, to top it off, they were half price! With their detailed and distinctive rim, they are the perfect layering companion to a place setting of pink, green and gold.

Green and blue and red, oh my! These vintage colored candleholder votives are simply marvelous and their jewel-toned colors, designs, and textures complement our vintage glassware perfectly.  Embrace your love of color and include both on your tablescape!

Southern Vintage Table Event – Alex & Caroline’s Fall Wedding

All year we have been excited about Alex & Caroline’s wedding! You see, the minute I met this delightful couple, it was obvious they were so perfectly matched. Their thoughtful plans were filled with freshness and originality and when they described their vision for their fall wedding featuring our vintage 70s stoneware patterns, we were truly thrilled. In addition to the mixed and matched vintage stoneware, their plan included our vintage green and amber goblets, stainless flatware, serving dishes, vases, and crocheted overlays. We couldn’t wait to see the final results!

With a morning wedding ceremony at the Haw River banks near Chatham Mills in Pittsboro, followed by a reception breakfast, everything about this day was organically beautiful. The details were creatively captured in the photographs below by Live View Studios and we know you will love them!

Shelly at Southern Vintage Table was a delight to work with! Our reception turned out like a vision thanks to the fun vintage tableware and accessories. Everyone was asking where we rented the mismatched stoneware plates and amber and green goblets. She was very responsive, creative, and detailed oriented. Highly recommend this vendor!

Vintage Feature – Vintage Bobèche Bling Bling

Bobeche

We learned a new word this week – bobèche.  It’s such an elegant sounding word – pronounced as bō-ˈbāsh – and it’s something you’ve probably seen but didn’t know that it had such a cool name.  So, what is a (now practice saying it) bobèche?

A bobèche is the collar placed under a candle or light and adorned with crystals and pretty do-dads. The collars might be made from plastic, glass, or metal. Fun, huh?  They make any brass, pewter, silver, and glass candle holder look so glam!

Vintage Candle Holders with Bobeches

After experimenting with our collection of bobèches, we are itching to try out a few ideas. We’re not ready to share them just yet except to say we’ve seen some pretty crystals that match the colors of our vintage jewel-toned goblets. Oops, we probably said too much.   In the meantime, after this tumultuous week, this empowering quote has given me new purpose.

Thinking will not overcome fear but action will.

Wishing you all a terrific week.

Southern Vintage Table Events – We Are Featured in Southern Weddings Magazine – Twice!

Southern Weddings Magazine

We are SO excited and maybe even a little giddy!! This past spring we were invited to share some of our vintage treasures for two different features in this year’s Southern Weddings V9 magazine. For one shoot we supplied our three vintage punch bowls, punch cups, a pink enameled tub, and a milk glass compote. The second shoot we happily provided some of our most favorite patterns from our vintage dinnerware collection. That was May and we’ve been counting the months since.

November is here and we got word that the Southern Weddings V9 magazine was ready! We received a sneak preview of this beautiful publication and eagerly looked for our lovelies. We found our punch bowls and such in a gorgeous feature called “Chapel Charm” and then our china in the elegant “Greenbriar Getaway” article.  How thrilling to see how our pieces were incorporated into these two creative styled shoots and to find our name – Southern Vintage Table – in the vendor listing. Whoop, whoop!!

The official launch is this Thursday, November 10, so you’ll need to wait just a wee bit to get your copy of Southern Weddings V9 and for us to reveal more from these two articles. We soooo look forward to sharing them with you!
