Vintage Wedding Table Settings

Southern Vintage Table Events – Large and Small, Every Detail Was Covered!

Talk about details! Halie and Chandler’s sweet spring wedding, held at the Women’s Club of Portsmouth in Virginia and photographed by Ryann Winn Photography, was a happy occasion for everyone. From butterfly releases to gelato to a Pittsburg Wedding Cookie Table, this wedding was full of fun surprises.

Spring colors of green, blue, and pink were chosen as the theme of their wedding and our vintage delicate floral plates fit perfectly. With vintage green, pink, and blue goblets, vintage silver-plated flatware, and a vintage teacup and saucer, each place setting expressed that this wedding was indeed a special day.

Now, you might think the teacups are for tea or coffee but you would be incorrect! Guests were invited to fill them with yummy gelato from the gelato cart. How cool is that?

But, that was not the only dessert! Take a look at the cake stands filled with many varieties of cookies from Terri Negil Terry’s Tantalizing Treats. This display is a tradition known as a Pittsburgh Wedding Cookie Table. This “sweet” tradition, is new to us, and maybe you, too, so here’s a brief description from History of Wedding Cookie Table.

“Rooted deep in the history of Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Eastern Ohio lies the beloved cookie table. To the folks in these parts of the country, a wedding without a Cookie Table is like having a wedding without the Bride and Groom – pointless! The Wedding Cookie Table has strong ethnic and religious ties, linked mainly to European immigrants of Catholic descent – particularly present in industrial areas that housed Italians, Greeks, and other Europeans.

Although the beginning of the Cookie Table is debatable, it is believed that this sweet sensation has been around since the Great Depression. It has been implied that the Cookie Table grew in popularity during this time because it offset the cost of purchasing a wedding cake, due in large part to the family and friends who baked for the wedding.”

One more unique took place after Harlie and Chandler said their vows. Symbolizing a new beginning filled with love, butterflies were released by the couple and guests. How wonderful!

Finally, we want to thank Shannon and Madison, Harlie’s mother and sister, for making the trek from Virginia to our Hillsborough studio for both the pickup and return. We recognize this took time and effort and we are most appreciative. They also presented us with many lovely pieces to add to our inventory. What a sweet gesture!

Best wishes to you two, Harlie and Chandler. Along with the butterflies, we wish you hope, love, and a wonderful life together.
