Southern Vintage Table Event – Beauteous Butterfly Styled Shoot at the Museum of Life & Science

Hillary of Sincerely Weddings Event Planning had a vision – she wanted to assemble a group of talented vendors for a styled shoot at the Butterfly House at the Museum of Life and Science. This nontraditional venue is ideal for couples who love science and nature, and want a memorable wedding experience for themselves and their guests. As you will see from the marvelous images captured by September Photos , a wedding here can be pretty spectacular!

To prepare for the styled shoot, Hillary came to our studio and selected the vintage tableware for the reception. The vintage blue and white dinnerware with vintage amber goblets always make a statement and her design was impeccable! The bride’s bouquet, styled by Sweets and Stems, as well as the floral touch on the gorgeous cake by Rachel Bailey Cake Artist, incorporated the blue, white, and amber theme. Even the speciality drink served by Barbox carried this theme so deliciously!

Thank you, Hillary, for gathering us together for this stunning styled shoot! We all loved the final results and so did the butterflies!

Southern Vintage Table Event – Lauren & Justin’s Pastoral Wedding

Serene, natural, and enchanting – adjectives that describe Lauren and Justin’s wedding at Rougemont’s Sassafras Fork Farm. One month ago, these two pledged their forevers to one another and these photos by Kelley Deal Photography perfectly capture their beautiful day. With permission we have grabbed a few from her blog and you’ll want to see all of them; we promise!

Lauren and Justin chose our vintage white stoneware for their place settings. Mixed-and-matched salad plates and vintage clear goblets were splendid complements to their natural wood decor and farm-fresh flowers. We love how the napkins with a sprig of greenery were placed to complete each setting!

Best wishes to you two, Lauren & Justin, and we are so appreciative that you selected our vintage pieces for your wedding celebration! Also, thank you, Kelly, for sharing these wonderful photographs!

Southern Vintage Table Event – Winter-Themed Styled Shoot

Collaborating with vendors to create gorgeousness is one of our favorite parts of working in the event and wedding industry. Most of the time we are focused on bringing our client’s dream event to fruition, but when we work together on a styled shoot, creativity is wide open. From inception to finality, the cadre of professionals bring their skills and products to the themed shoot. Sometimes the theme may be like a fairy tale such as a wedding in the style of The Game of Thrones, or it may be a more authentic setting like a fall-themed wedding and reception. Both styles are designed to showcase wares and talents of the professional team and very rewarding to all.

For this photo shoot, winter’s rich hues amid elegance was the theme. Melrose Knitting Mill provided the backdrop for a bridal portrait styled shoot as well as a coordinating tablescape. To see the bridal portrait photos, please visit photographer Tugba Tuncer’s gallery on her website. The series of photos featured here, also taken by Tugba, perfectly fit the look of a sophisticated winter season tablescape. Twig and Tendril along with Fallon Flowers created beautiful florals to accompany our vintage place settings.

Many thanks to Tugba for inviting us to provide the table settings for this shoot!  Other vendors for this segment of the shoot included:
Venue – Melrose Knitting Mill
Photographer – Tugba Tuncer
Florals – Twig and Tendril and Fallons Flowers
Planner – A Day Soiree

Vintage Feature – Behind the Scenes at Southern Vintage Table

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

When renting our vintage wares, you can be assured that we want you to have the very best experience. Each and every client is valued and appreciated, and we truly love sharing our collections! So, how does it all happen once an order is placed? Today we are taking you behind-the-scenes to show you how it’s done!

This upcoming weekend we are providing place settings for 175 guests at Katie and Evan’s wedding in Raleigh. We are packing dinner, salad, and dessert plates along with flatware, goblets, and napkins. Yep, it’s huge and thus, our packing schedule began a week ago.

We started with the vintage goblets. Crates were filled with green, amber, teal, pink, and blue goblets then run through our commercial dishwasher. Once dried, they were labeled, wrapped in plastic, and stacked on a dolly. That’s 7 crates, stacked up, and yep, it’s taller than me!

Next up, the flatware settings. Inside these bins are 175 silver-plated knives, dinner forks, salad forks, spoons, and dessert forks. Believe me, these babies are heavy!

Dessert plates came next. Racks were filled with a good mix of vintage patterns, then washed, labeled, wrapped, and stacked.

Meanwhile, vintage white/cream napkins were selected and ironed at home. We only have 75 more to go!

The final packing job is the mixing and matching of the vintage dinner and salad plates. Using a kitchen cart, we rolled down the dinner plate aisle and filled a crate with a 20 vintage plates in a variety of floral patterns. Then we rolled back to our worktable filled with salad plates. One by one we matched a dinner plate with a salad plate. The filled crates then went through the dishwasher and were labeled, wrapped, and placed on a cart. At the time of this post, we have only two more dinner/salad crates of 20 left to do!

Once we finish packing the two sets of plates and ironing the remaining napkins, we’ll be ready for Saturday’s wedding. Priscilla, Jami, and Pat will join me to set beautiful, vintage place settings on rustic farm tables. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

Southern Vintage Table Event – Colorful Thanksgiving Tables

We all arrived with our favorite dishes to share and, as we have for over five decades, enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal together. Sisters, brothers, cousins, children, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends – every flavor of family looks forward to our Bass-Heath-Roberson-Friends gathering.

Southern Vintage Table (aka Shelly 🙂 ), along with Rowena, Allie, Tommy, Sandy, and Melissa, arrived Wednesday at the Rolesville Masonic Lodge to set the tables. This year’s colorful theme included printed tablecloths with colored placemats and mid-century plates in greens, yellows, and blues. Also added to each place setting were mixed and matched vintage napkins, clear goblets, and stainless flatware.

Rowena and Melissa arranged centerpieces from greenery, flowers, and berries gathered from our yards and gardens. These were placed in colored bottles and vases down the tables with vintage candle holders and votives The result? Three long tables dressed in happy hues of blues, greens, and gold!

(Thank you, Wiley and Sandy, for posting these on Facebook!)

Although some family members are no longer with us and others couldn’t make it this year, we all dearly love this annual celebration. We’ll be back next year to do it again!

The tradition continues, Susie, Wiley, Christine, Aline, Weldon, and Toot – and your families dearly thank you!

Southern Vintage Table Events – Afternoon Tea Reception

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

Three wonderful things happened this week!  First, we received gorgeous wedding photos of Jenn & Teague’s June wedding from Rebekah Senter Photography.  Second, Jenn and Teague’s wedding “Romantic Vintage Wedding at Rigmor House,” was published in Borrowed and Blue! And, third,  SVT has a business listing in Borrowed and Blue with two featured events. Wooo Hooo!

Our part in this beautiful occasion was to provide the vintage tableware for the Friday tea reception after the outdoor ceremony. Jenn wanted an English feel with all the tableware in blue and white so we had blue & white and white teapots for each table, blue & white china, and blue goblets. Our vintage napkins and silver flatware competed each place setting.

The reception plan was that we would set the tables inside the space in the morning and after the wedding, the guests would come in for tea. Well, the weather was not cooperative that weekend so Plan B was on – have the wedding ceremony inside and then quickly “flip” the room for the reception.

To help with this transformation we organized everything on the bar in the kitchen hallway, ready for the “flippers” to pick up. The teapots were lined up per table, plates stacked, and napkins folded. In the kitchen, Jenn and Teague’s family and friends were filling the tiered stands and serving dishes with the delicious treats for the buffet.

Although we weren’t there for the flip, Erica, owner of  Folie à Deux Events, assembled a great team.  As soon as the romantic ceremony concluded, they moved ceremony furniture out and reception tables in, dropped the linens, and then set the tables. Erica told us Jenn was so happy when she saw the transformation from this sweet ceremony to ….

Southern Vintage Table Event – A Re-Celebration of Rebekah & Joey’s Wedding

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC

Two years ago my hard drive crashed. Yikes. I knew I should have had a backup but did I? Nope. I called my computer guy to see what he could salvage and, of course, he asked if I had a backup. Thoroughly embarrassed,  I admitted that I did not. That’s when he gave me the bad news – that he might be able to recover some of the data but not all. Thankfully, he did get a lot of files back with strange file names that I had to rename and reorganize, but I knew many files were just lost. Lesson learned – I got set up on iCloud and another backup drive.

A couple weeks ago, as I’m looking for the photos from Rebekah and Joey’s September 2014 wedding and couldn’t find them, I remembered why – the hard drive crash. Because this was one of our first big weddings and it turned out so beautifully, I contacted the photographer, Anna Kirby, to see if she could help. And help she did. Gratefully, I downloaded new copies.  So, today’s post is a re-celebration of Rebekah and Joey’s gorgeous wedding, set at the Saint Thomas Preservation Hall in Wilmington, photographed by Anna Kirby Photography,

Thanks again, Anna Kirby Photography, for giving us the opportunity to relive this amazing wedding through your beautiful work.  Be sure to read and see more in our first post about this wedding, “A Romantically Vintage Wedding” and see the full set of Anna Kirby’s portfolio photographs on her website.

Lastly, there are a few friends who always will remember the front steps of Saint Thomas Preservation Hall – this one’s for you!

Oh my goodness, it has been an incredible week! My aching muscles and feet are a testament to the progress we have made on our studio move. Look at these shelves, filled with our vintage treasures and wares. No longer crammed in crates or drawers, they now are easily admired and seen!

Vintage Feature – A Symbol of Love and Prosperity is… Wheat

While collecting vintage china patterns for Southern Vintage Table, I have found many vintage patterns with wheat shafts. Why wheat, I wondered?  It’s brown and umm … brown.  I knew there must be a story behind it.  Well, of course, there is.

Southern Vintage Table Vintage China Rental NC
Wheat designs on three vintage china patterns – HLC2022, Golden Wheat, GRI207

Wheat symbolizes many good things in life.  To name just a few –  prosperity, love, home and hearth, harvest, spring, birth and hope.  In the bible wheat is the symbol for righteous people.  No wonder it was popular on china, to be seen everyday at the family dining table!

One of the most prevalent patterns in the mid 1950s was Golden Wheat by Homer Laughlin, featured in the middle of the photo above.  It was a marketing gimmick of Duz detergent – they wanted to have an edge over Tide, so they started including china dishes in their boxes of detergent!  Don’t you wish someone would do that again?

The third image above is a beautiful golden scalloped edged pattern on a luscious cream background.  I came upon it at a local thrift store – there was an entire set!  One of the volunteers, Polly, and I sat down on the floor and examined each piece, reveling in its design and beauty.  The pattern is from Grindley, manufactured in England and dates during the 1940s-50s.  Of course, I bought it!

One more trio of wheat images is below from the 40s-60s.  The first two are on fine porcelain china and the third has a beautiful teal coloring.

So, lovely wheat is in – at least on vintage china patterns – and we have them available for you at Southern Vintage Table!
