Natural, vibrant, earthy, organic, colorful, artsy, vintage, – all describe the oh-so hip boho look. We’ve embraced this style and want to show you a few things we have that will add a little Boho to your next event!

Macrame is back and in full swing! Popular in the 70s, these knotted creations add a natural, crafty look and our growing collection of macrame bottle vases look perfect filled with flowers. As our skills improve, we’ll be looking to add more macrame items to our collection!

Candles, and lots of them, are essential for the Boho look. We have an extensive collection of candle holders, including these ornate, funky ones. The enameled and crystal ones are so chic! Add a mix of colored tapers to create the look of nature in its full range of colors.

Vintage colorful biscuit and tea tins are a wonderful addition to the tablescape. Whether placed simply as an item of interest or filled with flowers, these tins encapsulate the Boho love for florals.

Nature is a guiding inspiration for the Boho style. Pinecones, feathers, and shells are just a few decor items that embody a free-spirit look.

Anything Can Happen…

I was doing a photo shoot featuring our new doilies and decided to use some vintage books as an accent. I chose this one off the shelf, and not looking at the title, I placed it on top of the stack and took a photo. Then I noticed the title – Anything Can Happen by George and Helen Waite Papashvily, copyright 1940. Wow, I instantly hought, a message from the cosmos!

Haven’t read it but, of course, I love the sentiment! Sending you wishes for your “Anything Can Happen” dreams in the new year!

Vintage Feature – Vintage Table Linens are Delicate, Lovely and Often Very Personal

I am so appreciative of the beauty and unique history of vintage linens. Unlike china and crystal, vintage linens are often personalized with the delicate touch of hand stitching or embroidery. A true vintage treasure is finding a tablecloth or set of napkins that is a one-of-a-kind with the beautiful handiwork of its previous owner.

Whether it’s fine linen or pure cotton, lacy or frayed, embroidered or edged with lace, crisp white or cream colored, vintage linens add a special touch to the dinner table. Here is a sampling of our treasured inventory of vintage napkins and tablecloths at Southern Vintage Table.

New Additions…Well, not all are new, but we have added some new ones because we love doilies!

Doilies – those delicately crocheted thingies you saw on everything at your mother’s or grandmother’s home – on the back of the couch, the kitchen table, the entrance hall table, the coffee table, the dressing table, the arms on the chairs – all sizes – all colors but mostly white or off white – shaped like circles, stars, ovals, squares, triangles, rectangles, flowers. Well, no matter how big, what color or shape, I love them, all of them.

I’ve never met a doily I didn’t appreciate, especially when you can imagine a lovely woman, sitting in her comfortable chair, thinking about all the wonderful people in her life and trying to solve all the problems of the world. I recently was talking to my brother-in-law, Phil, about doilies. He was at an event we were setting up for and picked one up at the table. He told us that he fondly remembers his grandmama Lillian Earl crocheting doilies with tobacco twine. Although he doesn’t have a doily of hers, he does have a beautiful crocheted blanket she gave him when he and my sister got married. What a treasure!

(This doily is particularly special to me. It was once in a frame in my daughter’s room when she was just a baby. She’s now in her mid-twenties.)

Southern Vintage Table has an extensive collection of doilies and adding to them all the time, because, as I confessed, I love them! There’s pure love in a doily and they always are ready to showcase anything you put on the table for the people you love. More of our doilies have been pinned on our Pinterest Board.
